IVF SPERM DONATION

Donated Sperm is used in fertility treatments to fertilize an egg either inside the woman’s body known as Intra Uterine Insemination (IUI) or in the laboratory known as IVF.

Who can use Sperm Donation?
Sperm Donation is an ideal option in

  • Male factor infertility resulting from no sperm or low sperm count
  • Men who are at a risk of passing a genetic condition to the child
  • Single women who want to have a biological child.

Procedure
The sperm donation procedure varies from clinic to clinic. Sperm from any healthy individual in the age group of 25-35 years are considered after performing medical and background checks. Sperm is also available from sperm banks which are medically tested. You can match the sperm with parameters like hair colour, height, skin colour, eye colour etc. You are advised to go for counseling sessions because the decision to use donated sperm is not always easily acceptable by families.

The donor sperm is injected into the retrieved egg using Intra Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection to fertilize the egg. On fertilization the best embryo is transferred into the female partner’s uterus within 2-3 days.

Success Rates
The success rates vary from individual to individual and are higher in women who have no infertility problems and are under 35. The success rates reduce with age of the women.
